CALL Material In Power Point (create interactive LKPD)

Here is a comprehensive outline and material guide for a training session or workshop titled "Creating Interactive LKPD (Student Worksheets) with PowerPoint."

This material is designed to be presented to educators or trainers who want to upgrade their teaching materials.

MODULE: Creation of Interactive LKPD with PowerPoint

Target Audience: Teachers, Educators, Instructional Designers

Duration: 2 - 3 Hours

Goal: Participants will be able to transform static worksheets into engaging, clickable, and interactive digital experiences using Microsoft PowerPoint.

Part 1: Introduction & Concept

  • What is an Interactive LKPD?

    • A digital worksheet where students don't just read; they interact.

    • Key Features: Clickable buttons, direct text input, drag-and-drop simulations (simple), and instant feedback.

  • Why PowerPoint?

    • Familiar interface for most teachers.

    • No need for internet (offline capable).

    • Highly customizable design.

Part 2: Preparation Phase

Before opening PowerPoint, define the structure of the LKPD.

  1. The Structure (Anatomy of an LKPD):

    • Cover Page: Title, Subject, Class, Semester.

    • Student Identity: Name, Class, Date (Input fields).

    • Instructions: Clear rules on how to navigate.

    • Core Material: Text, embedded videos, or audio explanations.

    • Activities/Tasks: Quizzes, Matching, Essays.

    • Evaluation/Score: Summary of performance.

  2. Asset Gathering:

    • Prepare images (transparent background PNGs work best).

    • Download sound effects (Correct "Ding" / Incorrect "Buzz").

    • Draft the questions and answers.

Part 3: Technical Workshop (Step-by-Step)

Technique A: Navigation & Branching (Hyperlinks)

The foundation of interactivity.

  1. Create Buttons: Insert Shapes (e.g., "Start", "Next", "Home").

  2. Link Slides: Right-click shape > Link (or Hyperlink) > Place in This Document > Select target slide.

  3. Action Buttons: Use Insert > Shapes > Action Buttons for pre-made Home/Back/Next navigation.

Technique B: Input Fields (Developer Tab)

Allowing students to type their names or essay answers.

  1. Enable Developer Tab: File > Options > Customize Ribbon > Check "Developer".

  2. Insert Text Box: Go to Developer Tab > Click "Text Box" (ActiveX Control) icon.

  3. Draw: Draw the box on the slide.

  4. Properties: Right-click the box > Properties.

    • EnterKeyBehavior: True (allows multi-line).

    • MultiLine: True.

    • Font: Adjust size and style.

Technique C: Instant Feedback (Triggers & Animations)

Creating "Correct!" or "Try Again" pop-ups without changing slides.

  1. Design the Pop-up: Create a text box or shape saying "Correct!" (Green) and "Wrong!" (Red).

  2. Hide Initially: Go to Animations tab > Add Animation > Appear.

  3. Set the Trigger:

    • While the "Correct" animation is selected, click Trigger (in Animation pane).

    • Select "On Click of..." > Choose the shape that represents the Right Answer.

  4. Repeat for Wrong Answers: Set the "Wrong" pop-up to appear when Wrong Answer shapes are clicked.

Technique D: Drag & Drop (Simple Version)

Note: True drag-and-drop requires VBA code or 'Edit Mode', but this visual trick works for presentations.

  1. Edit Mode Activity: Instruct students to not use "Slide Show" mode but stay in "Normal/Edit" view.

  2. Movable Objects: Place images on the side.

  3. Drop Zone: Create empty boxes.

  4. Task: Students use the mouse to drag images into boxes manually.

Part 4: Locking & Finalizing (The "Slide Master" Secret)

Prevent students from accidentally moving the question text or background.

  1. View Slide Master: Go to View > Slide Master.

  2. Design Background: Place all static elements here (Title, Question Text, Background borders).

  3. Close Master View: Go back to Normal view.

  4. Result: Students can only click the buttons and input boxes you placed on top; they cannot delete the questions.

Part 5: Saving & Distributing

  1. PowerPoint Show (.ppsx):

    • Save as PowerPoint Show (*.ppsx).

    • Benefit: When students open the file, it immediately starts full-screen in presentation mode.

  2. Macro-Enabled (.pptm):

    • Required only if you used VBA codes (advanced).

  3. PDF (Interactive):

    • Export to PDF if you only used Hyperlinks (Note: Animations/Triggers won't work in PDF).

Sample Activity Blueprint

You can use this blueprint to demonstrate a live example.

Subject: Biology (Photosynthesis)

  • Slide 1 (Cover): Large Title, "Start" Button (Hyperlink to Slide 2).

  • Slide 2 (Material): Diagram of a leaf. "Video" button opens a YouTube link. "Quiz" button goes to Slide 3.

  • Slide 3 (Quiz - Multiple Choice):

    • Question: "What gas do plants absorb?"

    • Option A (Oxygen): Trigger animation -> Red "Try Again" box appears.

    • Option B (CO2): Trigger animation -> Green "Correct" box appears + "Next" button appears.

  • Slide 4 (Essay):

    • Developer Text Box area.

    • Prompt: "Explain the process in your own words."
